Curio is a two-player game that runs entirely in the browser. One person makes a private room. The other opens the invite link (or types the 6-character code). You answer prompts, guess each other’s answers, and chat between rounds — no account, no install.
A modern browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge) on a phone, tablet, or laptop. A way to send a link if you are playing Duo with someone you know — text, WhatsApp, iMessage, Discord, Instagram DM, email, whatever you already use. Stable internet helps; Curio is light, but both players need to stay connected during rounds.
You do not need the same device type. One of you can be on a phone and the other on a laptop. You do not need to be in the same city. Long-distance sessions are a normal use case.
On the home page, choose how you want to play. For someone you know, create a Duo room. For someone new online, use Stranger matchmaking. Already have a code? Type the 6-character invite on the Join card.
When you create a room, Curio gives you an invite link and a short code. Keep that tab open — you are the host until the game starts.
Copy the link and send it. Your friend opens it in any browser. They do not need an account. If the link is awkward to paste, they can open Curio and enter the 6-character code instead.
Tip: if you are already on a video call, drop the link in the call chat so you can talk while you play. Many couples keep FaceTime or WhatsApp video open beside Curio.
Both players choose a nickname and avatar, then tap I’m ready. When both are ready, the host starts. If someone disconnects before start, they can reopen the same link to rejoin in most cases.
Each round gives you a prompt — polls, this-or-that, sync picks, truth-style questions, and similar formats. You answer, then try to guess what the other person chose. Chat stays available so you can react in the moment instead of switching apps.
In Duo, later rounds can get more personal when both of you stay engaged. In Stranger, the run stays shorter and lighter by design.

About 12 rounds with deeper beats mixed in. You invite someone you know. Harder or more personal questions can show up when both players are keeping up. Best for couples, best friends, and long-distance nights.

The first few rounds are usually easy wins — preferences, silly choices, quick reads. That is intentional. You are warming up the chat and learning how the other person answers. Mid-session rounds ask you to predict each other. Late Duo rounds lean more personal if the energy is there.
You do not need to “win” Curio. The point is shared attention. Some of the best sessions are the ones where you stop mid-round to talk about an answer for five minutes. Chat is there for that.
Phone: Add the invite to your home screen favorites if you play often. Keep notifications on for the chat if you step away briefly. Landscape is optional — Curio is built for portrait.
Laptop: Useful if you want a bigger chat panel while FaceTiming on your phone. Split-screen works well.

Is it free? Yes. No paywall to create or join a room.
Do I need an account? No. Nicknames are enough for a session.
Can more than two people play? Rooms are built for two players. For group nights, run back-to-back Duos or pair off.
What if someone leaves? You can often rejoin with the same link. If the room ended or expired, create a new one.
Is chat moderated? Players can report abuse. Do not harass others. We remove access when needed. Read privacy and terms for data and conduct details.
Where are ads? Ads may appear on marketing and blog pages. They do not run inside the active game room UI.
