15 Offline Two-Player Games (No Wi-Fi, No App Store)

Fifteen no-internet games for two people stuck together when the network dies — and a soft landing back online.

The Wi-Fi dies, the power flickers, or you are in a basement that refuses to hold a signal. Suddenly every “just open this link” idea is useless. Offline two-player games are what keep the night from turning into two people staring at dead rectangles.

This list needs no internet, no app updates, and no Bluetooth miracles. When the connection comes back, you can always open a Curio room. Until then, use what is already in the room.

What “offline” really means here

  • No live multiplayer that needs a server.
  • Paper, talk, cards, or apps that already work in airplane mode.
  • Interruptible. Power can return mid-round and that is fine.

Tip: Keep a small “outage kit”: pen, sticky notes, a deck of cards, a charged power bank. Future you will be smug.

15 offline two-player games

1. Two truths and a twist

Each person shares two truths and one false detail about their week. Guess the fake. Keep it kind if the day has already been rough.

2. Paper telephone

Word, drawing, guess, repeat. One sheet of paper is enough. Works by candlelight, which somehow makes bad art funnier.

3. Memory tray

Put ten small objects on a table. Study for thirty seconds. Cover. Write what you remember. Closest list wins.

4. Would you rather, house edition

Only use choices you can see: window or aisle couch seat, tea or water, early night or one more round. No phone prompts required.

5. Card war / simple deck games

If you have a deck, play war, golf, or any two-player game you both already know. Teaching a brand new complex ruleset during an outage is a fight waiting to happen.

6. Story one sentence each

Alternate sentences until you hit a page. Read it aloud once. Instant comedy, zero gear.

7. Shadow charades

Flashlight on a wall. Act titles or movie characters in silhouette. Quiet enough for late apartments.

8. Map the apartment

Draw the floor plan from memory. Compare. The person who forgets a whole closet buys the next snacks when stores reopen.

9. Soundtrack of our week

Hum three songs that fit the week. Guess which is work, which is home, which is “stuck in my head for no reason.”

10. Pillow fort engineering

Ten minutes. Build the best fort. Judge on door quality and vibe. Not dignified. Highly effective.

11. Compliment sparring

Back and forth, no repeats, sixty seconds on a kitchen timer. Competitive sweetness sounds fake until you try it.

12. Blind snack taste

If the fridge still has power or snacks are shelf-stable, guess flavors blindfolded. Skip if anyone is actually hungry and cranky.

13. Alphabet category

Pick a category (movies, foods, cities). Go A to Z. First stall loses the round.

14. “Pack a bag” hypothetical

You can take five items for a surprise overnight. Argue the list. Reveals priorities fast.

15. Quiet parallel play, then one question

Read or sketch in the same room for fifteen minutes. Then each asks one real question. Outages do not always need high energy.

Couples vs friends vs kids

  • Couples: compliment sparring, pack-a-bag, story chain. Save heavier talks for when the lights are back.
  • Friends: paper telephone, shadow charades, alphabet category.
  • Parent and child: memory tray, fort building, alphabet. More ideas in games for parent and child for when Wi-Fi returns.

When the internet comes back

Do not waste the first signal on email. If you still have energy, open Curio, run Quick / 5, and laugh about the outage prompts you invent in chat. Browser games with no install are listed in two-player browser games. For bored-at-home days that still have Wi-Fi, see bored at home two-player games.

What not to do

  • Doomscroll on cellular until the battery dies and you still have no plan.
  • Start a rules-heavy new hobby in the dark.
  • Turn the outage into a scorecard of who is more annoyed.

Common questions

Can Curio work offline?

No. It needs a connection for the shared room. Use this list during the outage, then Curio after.

One phone with a little cellular left?

Save it for emergencies or a single Quick session later. Do not burn the battery on video.

We are stuck in a waiting room with no signal.

Steal the quiet paper and talk games from waiting room games for two.

Is this only for power outages?

Also camping, flights in airplane mode, cabins, and “we both agreed to put the router to bed.”

Offline nights force you back into the room you are actually in. That is annoying for about four minutes. After that, a pen and a little structure usually beat refreshing a dead Wi-Fi icon.
